Grown for its creamy-white, lemon-scented flowers in May and June and attractive silvery backs of its leaves. Leaves drop in late fall and reappear in early spring.
Unlike Southern magnolias, Sweetbays thrive in damp to even wet, soggy soil as well as ordinary garden soil.
Garden designer, Dabney Peeples, has planted a beautiful grouping of 3 or 4 Sweetbays in front of an otherwise plain wall of his home.

Rate of Growth
Sweetbay magnolias mature at about 15' by 10' wide. Expect 1-2' of growth a year.
Where to Plant
Plant in all-day sun to quite heavy shade. Sweetbays thrive in wet areas of the garden as well as in ordinary garden soil.

Whether you're located in Upstate South Carolina or Upstate New York, we're thrilled you've dropped by our site! Currently we offer either 1) curbside pickup or 2) local delivery within 50 miles of our location. We do not currently have any shipping capability to send plant material out of SC.

Please, do not order plants or hard goods if you live out of state. A 10% restocking fee will apply for out of state orders made in error.

If your tree or shrub doesn't survive for twelve months, we ask that you return the dead plant along with your receipt and we will give you a store credit for 50% of your purchase price. Annuals, herbaceous perennials, and tropicals are not covered under this warranty.
