Size

A rare find, Pygmy Fringetree is similar to our native C. retusus, but with a smaller and more compact size. FRAGRANT WHITE flower spikes in April and May along with its neat and compact growth-habit make it a great option for a smaller-growing specimen tree.
Leaves are especially thick and glossy, thus drought-tolerant after its first season in the ground. Leaves turn a soft yellow in fall before dropping for winter.

See our Asian Fringe-Tree (also referred to by many as a "Grey-Beard Tree") planted at the lower end of the display garden near the bog.

Botanical Name
Chionanthus pygmaeus
Rate of Growth
Pygmy Fringetree usually matures at only 8-10' tall and wide, at a rate of 6-12" a year.
Where to Plant
Plant in sun to light shade.
