Also known as a "Grancy Grey-Beard", this native tree is grown for its awesome, fragrant white flower spikes in April and May and its neat and compact growth habit as a smaller-growing specimen tree.
The NATIVE Fringe Tree differs from the ASIAN Fringe Tree in these ways - It has longer flowers which are a bit more fragrant, its leaves are dull-green rather than glossy-green and it is much slower-growing than the Asian.
Leaves turn a soft-yellow in fall before dropping for winter.

Botanical Name
Chionanthus virginicus
Rate of Growth
Trees grow slowly to only 10-15' tall and wide, at a rate of about 12" a year.
Where to Plant
Plant in sun to medium shade.
