Inspired by the Adam's Family, this oddity is grown for its 2" spines (talons?) and twisted BRIGHT GREEN stems. Supposedly, the U.S. military plants Trifoliate Orange as barrier hedges around some of its bases.

WHITE flowers in late April turn into "oranges" that ripen in late October. Even when ripe, fruit is extremely sour. Fruit has a strong citrus fragrance.

In addition to security hedging, some gardeners plant a single Trifoliate Orange as a conversation piece.

Poncirus trifoliate 'Flying Dragon'
Rate of Growth
Trifoliate Orange matures at 6-8' tall and wide or even larger with age. Expect about 12" growth a year.
