This cold-hardy fern is grown for its CINNAMON-COLORED spikes which emerge in early Spring, unfurling to reveal green fronds. Foliage is beautiful all Summer until frost.

Plant alone as a specimen or space 2-3' apart when planting in groups of three or more in combination with other
shade-lovers.

Cut plants to about 4" in November or December. Their "cinnamon sticks" will re-emerge in March, heralding the beginning of another year in the garden.

Botanical Name
Osmunda cinnamomea
Rate of Growth
Plants mature at 3' tall and wide. Expect plants to reach maturity in 2-3 years.
Where to Plant
Plant in light shade to quite heavy shade. While plants will thrive in morning summer sun, they should receive no more than a couple hours of the hottest afternoon summer sun.
