The Black Gum, also commonly known as the "tupelo tree", is best known for its gorgeous fall color which it sports as nights grow cooler, usually mid to late October in our area. Shades of fluorescent yellow, orange, scarlet-red, and even purple color can be seen during this time; it's quite the showstopper! Attractive glossy, dark green leaves emerge in spring and remain through summer and fall until dropping for winter.
