Why plants may look different in the nursery

Plants are living, seasonal products. The photos on our website may show plants at different stages of growth, during peak seasonal beauty, or as provided by the grower.

Because of this, the plant you see in the nursery may look different depending on the time of year, the plant’s age, or natural growing conditions.

What affects how a plant looks?

Seasonal changes
Many plants look dramatically different throughout the year. Deciduous plants may flower in spring, grow full foliage in summer, change color in fall, and appear dormant in winter.

Plant maturity
Photos often show mature plants so you can see their long-term beauty. Younger plants in the nursery are still growing toward that size and shape.

Supplier photography
Some images come from our growers to help illustrate mature flowers, color, or growth habits that may not be visible year-round.

Even if a plant looks smaller or different than the photo today, it has the potential to grow into the beautiful specimen shown.

Tip: Plants in winter may appear dormant but are still healthy and ready to grow in the spring.

Perennial Sizes

Spicata liriope ("Monkey Grass") is grown for its wonderful deep-green foliage which remains the same color year-round and for its pale-lavender flower spikes in July and August.
Plant Spicata as a massed groundcover where you want plants to quickly spread together to fill a bed area. We cut down our liriope only about once every 3 years to remove old foliage, either by hand with clippers or with a weed-eater. It is best to do this right as you see new growth emerging in early spring and before the new growth gets tall enough to interfere with trimming away the old foliage.

Plants mature at 12-18" tall and spread by underground runners in all directions. Thus, Spicata makes a wonderful evergreen groundcover through which weeds cannot penetrate. Space plants 18-24" apart and expect plants to grow together after only 2-3 years.

    Currently we offer either local pickup or local delivery within 30 miles of our location. We do not currently have any shipping capability to send plant material out of SC.

    Please, do not order plants or hard goods if you live out of state. A 10% restocking fee will apply to orders made in error.

    From store to door, we offer low cost local deliveries for your convenience.

    1. Pick Your Plants

    Select your plants from our fresh, beautiful offerings. We currently offer delivery within a 30 mile radius of our nursery. We do not ship material via USPS, FedEx, or any other service.

    2. Determine Your Price

    Deliveries within 30 miles are charged at 5% of the order total with a $75 minimum fee. This allows us to fairly compensate our delivery driver while also providing value for larger loads.

    3. Select Your Date

    We'll be in touch within 2 business days to schedule a time that works best for both parties. Our driver can unload and stage plants at any site directly accessible with our delivery vehicle.
    Warranty/Returns

    Lichtenfelt’s is committed to providing healthy, pest-free plant material to our customers. Because successful growth becomes a shared responsibility once a plant leaves our care, we split the risk with you.

    If your tree or shrub fails within twelve months, please return the plant along with your receipt for a 50% store credit. We ask that you bring the plant back so our experts can help troubleshoot what happened—ensuring your next one thrives! We’re in this together.

    Note: Annuals, herbaceous perennials, and tropicals are not covered under this warranty.
