Grown for its large (6-10"), flat white flowers in late June and July. Plant guru, Mike Dirr, says there simply is no better clinging vine.
Plants hold onto solid wood or brick fences and walls, arbors, and trees with root-like "holdfasts" - there is no need to support the vine with tape or ties. These "holdfasts" are completely harmless to wood and brick surfaces.
Leaves drop in winter and re-emerge in early spring.

Botanical Name
Hydrangea petiolaris
Rate of Growth
Plants take a year or so to get established before beginning to grow vigorously. While plants may mature at 30' or more, they may easily be kept to 10' with once-a-year pruning.
Where to Plant
Plant in spot which receives a bit of shade from the hottest part of the afternoon summer sun.
