Legendary plant explorer, Robert Fortune, first saw this unusual conifer growing as a container plant in China and introduced it into cultivation in 1854.
Golden larch is grown for its stunning soft, flattened needles which are bright pea-green in summer, turning to a bright golden-yellow in fall before dropping for winter. Interestingly, needles drop all at one time, making it a one-time clean up!

If you have room for one legacy tree, this should be it.

Botanical Name
Pseudolarix amabilis
Rate of Growth
Golden larch grows slowly to mature at about 30' by 15' wide. Expect about 12" of growth a year.
Where to Plant
Plant in sun to light shade.
