Big Blue' Liriope (aka "monkey grass") is grown for its wonderful deep-green foliage which remains year-round and for its deep-purple flower spikes in July and August. Plant 'Big Blue' as a border or a mass-planting where you don't want plants to spread into surrounding beds. 'Big Blue' forms a clump - it doesn't spread by underground runners as does Spicata liriope.
We cut down our liriope only once every 3 years to remove old foliage, either by hand with clippers or with a weed-eater. The best time to trim is right when you see new growth emerging in early spring, before it gets tall enough to interfere with trimming away the old foliage.

Botanical Name
Liriope muscari 'Big Blue'
Rate of Growth
Plants mature at 12-18" tall by 18-24" wide. Expect plants to reach mature width after only 2-3 years in the garden.
Where to Plant
Plant in sun to quite heavy shade.
