Calamondin is a lesser known citrus with a big upside! Cold-hardy to about 15-20 degrees when planted in the ground, Calamondin is likely to over-winter many South Carolina seasons. However, to ensure it will thrive when the temps drop, plant Calamondin in a large container that can be brought indoors temporarily.
Handsome foliage, FRAGRANT flowers, and small BRIGHT ORANGE fruit with a taste that is somewhere between an orange and a lime make Calamondin our new edible favorite!

Botanical Name
Citrus mitus
Rate of Growth
When planted in the ground, Calamondin can grow up to 10’ tall and wide or more, at a rate of about 12” a year. Plants in containers will be restricted to a much smaller, more manageable size.
Where to Plant
Plant in sun to light shade.
